Excerpt from Waterloo
Since this book is intended for rapid reading rather than for careful study, the notes are numerous. Words used in an unusual sense have generally been defined in the notes, as have been all purely technical terms, and those belonging to the profession of arms are quite numerous - for dictionaries are sometimes misleading in this particular and sometimes entirely silent.
The story, as originally written, being too long for com mon use in the class-room, it has been much abridged by leaving out the less important parts, but as here presented, it is given entirely in the language of the authors.
