IN deciding to write this small treatise the author was prompted to do so after having carefully perused the various articles in the Technical Press, pointing out the wasteful and inefficient manner in which the great majority of steam-raising plants are being worked in this country. Although these articles dealt in very great detail with the results that have been found on testing a large number of plants, yet there was practically no advice given as to how to set to work to improve matters.
