In projecting agri cultural water needs for the rest of the century, usda estimated that feasible improvements in ir rigation methods could provide enough water for needed expansion of irrigated acreage at least for the next 20 years A projected 80 percent ih crease in land irrigated by the year 2000 can be supplied with only 20 percent increase in water withdrawals if conservation methods are widely adopted.
