Excerpt from Absolute Photometry of the Light of the Night Sky: The Zenith Intensity of Haleakala (Latitude N 20. 7°) And at Fritz Peak (Latitude N 39. 9°)
The earth-bound Observer not only has to attempt the resolution of the three components but also must contend with the effects of the extinction and scattering of the lower atmosphere. The problem of making the extinction and scattering corrections becomes progressively more difficult as the horizon is approached but, fortunately, zenith observations are not seriously affected.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the various components that make up the light of the night sky, which is traditionally separated into three primary sources: starlight, the zodiacal light, and airglow. The author provides a detailed look at the separation of these three components and how each can be individually measured and analyzed. The data presented in this book is based on a year's worth of systematic observations made with standardized zenith photometers at two different locations. Through a series of approximations the author effectively separates starlight, zodiacal light, and the airglow continuum. By making use of previous star count integrations, the author is also able to present a revised integrated starlight intensity map for the Milky Way. The study concludes with a particularly in-depth discussion on the galactic light, a component of the night sky that is still not fully understood.
