The writer's maxims and prescriptions are expressed with an almost childish simplicity, not to call it rustic ity, of language, which is, however, the book's greatest charm. You cannot help feeling, as you read it, that this man owes nothing to the teachings of science, but everything to an inborn gift, so strongly developed as almost to deserve the name of inspiration. No tech nical terms, no learnedly incomprehensible medicinal phrases, are here employed to illustrate his meaning; but a simple child of nature himself, he borrows his Similes from the common growth of mother earth around him.
