The aim of this book is first of all to lead young people to an acquaintance with the principal kinds of animals, especially as they are found in nature. Consequently little stress is laid on anatomy, although anatomy is, it is true, the basis of our present classification of animals. More stress is laid on the relation of organisms to environ ment - ec'ology or bionomics - and to man.
