Upon the decease of Mr. B eil the editorship of the second volume was undertaken by Dr. T. Franke of Hannover. To him the work is indebted for revision in all that con cerns the fundamental merit a book of this kind should possess; although a new arrange ment, in the disposition of the matter, suggested by him, was abandoned as it was found not to harmonize with the original plan of the work.
