Excerpt from Gross Static Lifting Capacity of Logging Balloons
Gross static lift is directly proportional to purity of lifting gas. Lifting gas is gener ally delivered nearly 100 percent pure; however, air can be expected to diffuse into the balloon during inflation and opera tion. For example, a balloon containing 95 percent by volume pure helium generates 95 percent cf the lift of the same balloon containing 100 percent of pure helium.
