This short book is the outcome of a desire to help the student to some things which have taken most of us years to find out for ourselves. It has no literary pretensions, but it aims to set forth, however haltingly and colloquially, through the unfamiliar medium of the pen, a painter's ideas and opinions. It is the outcome of experience rather than of theory.
