Vi promisi di scrivervi da Bologna, e in ogni modo avrei pur dovuto ringraziar voi, e tutti i vostri delle tante cortesie che mi usaste in Pesaro, ma sono stato poi sem. Pre, parte occupato parte distratto in maniera che ho mancato all obbligo mio, del che non mglio che mi scusi altro che la confidenza, che ho nella vostra amicizia. Sono qui da un mese e mezzo, e fmse mi fermero ancora che altro tempo. Appena arrivato, vidi Monti, domandò subito di voi, e del vostro Lucano. Lo salutai per parte vostra, e gli esposi quello che voi mi avevate commesso che gli dicessi. Da quella volta in qua non l'ho mai veduto, e credo che non lo vedrà, perchè in quella prima visita volli pr0priamentc sputar sangue per parlargli in modo che egli mi potesse intendere, e in verità non ho forza di petto che basti per conversar con lui nè anche un quarto d'ora. Eccetto questa sordità spaventosa che me lo rende inutile, mi parve che stesse bene.
