Owing to the destruction of the early records of the town of Newport, it has been impossible to obtain a full account of the descendants of john pitman.

The undersigned has collected, from public and private rec ords, the contents of this pamphlet, which it is believed will be interesting to the descendants now living, and enable them to trace their families back to the first settler of the name in Rhode Island.
