Il m'est permis de croire à l'utilité de mes Souvenirs polytechni qwas lorsque plusieurs ministères, et la Direction générale des ponts et chaussées, après s'être fait rendre compte de cet l'ouvrage, ont bien voulu en acquérir de nombreux exemplaires. Quand je l'ai pu blié, à la fin de 1827, je n'avais point terminé les traductions que je rapporte d'après deux célèbres auteurs d'italie; il me manquait une partie des matériaux relatifs aux autres sujets traités dans cet Appen dice. Les dessins n'étaient point disposés sous le format convenable à leur gravure; enfin j'attendais ou l'exécuti0n, ou la sanction com pétente de quelques objets afin de ne rien exposer qui ne fût appuyé soit par l'expérience soit par une approbation supérieure.
