Le vicomte de Spoelberch de Lovenjoul', a rouvert de la façon la plus curieuse, entre Alfred de Musset et George Sand, un débat qui ne sera pas décidément clos, ni l'équitable juge ment prononcé, avant la mise au plein jour des lettres échan gées par ces amants illustres. La réputation du célèbre cher cheur n'est plus à faire et nous nous garderons de dire le bien que nous en pensons. Nous ne voulons à notre tour que joindre au dossier commun quelques pièces authen tiques. La véritable histoire de cette liaison, apparem ment, cc n'est pas Elle et Lui, ce n'est pas davantage Lui et Elle; et nous ne disons rien de Lui, qui fut l'oeuvre d'une personne étrangère au débat et l'exercice de rancunes particulières on ne saurait préparer avec trop de soin le difficile triomphe de la vérité.
