Lo stesso Tiraboschiaggiugne di non avere di fatti trovato memoria nè di persona alcuna nè di alcuna città che a questi tempi pensasse ad aprire un' ampia e pubblica Biblioteca, e ad a gevolare, e promuovere per tal modo gli studi; e quindi ottimamente riflette il dotto Istorio'gra fo della italiana letteratura che il nome di Bi blioteca era usato talvolta ad esprimere non altro che i libri della Sagra Scrittura come osserva pure da-cange; e come vuolsi intendere il le gato di due Biblioteche ordinato da Jacopo Ber tinoro nel 4499 a due chiese come da docu mento pubblicato dal P.
