Im Eggegebirge und zum Teil auch noch im Lippischen Walde streichen die Kreideschichten bei flacher Lagerung in erheblicher Breite aus und bilden einen entsprechend breiten Gebirgszug; am Osning geht die Kreide bei steiler Stellung in schmalem Bande zu Tage, und ‚damit ist hier das Gebirge von nur geringer Breite. Schon in diesen morphologischen Verhält nissen spiegelt sich die verschiedenartige Geschichte der einzelnen Teile des Teutoburger Waldes wieder.
