The war with the Burmas in 1824-26, was at tended with so many circumstances of a novel and peculiar character, and opened to European access so many new and interesting regions, that it was thought advisable by the Government of Bengal, to place before the public in a collective and available form, a series of official documents, illustrative of the origin, course and termination of hostilities: providing in this manner a trust worthy guide for any future emergency of a similar nature, and disseminating authentic in formation respecting the valuable countries be tween India and China, of which at the time little or nothing was known. With these views two sets of papers were selected, the one political and military, the other topographical and statis tical, and both were printed in Calcutta, in 1827.
