Excerpt from The Primitives of the Greek Tongue: Containing a Complete Collection of All the Roots or Primitive Words, Together With the Most Considerable Derivatives of the Greek Language
The motives which induced me to vary from the original of the Greek Method, in not throwing the rules into metre, have determined me to obferve the fame conduct in the following verfion; as I have not yet difcovered any manner of argument drawn from reafon or experience, to evince the expediency or utility of verfe in a work of this nature. -i have clofely obfcrved the alphabetical order, tho' the Author has been fometimes obliged to break thro' it in the original, for the fake of his favorite rhime.-i have confiantly pointed out the gender and genitive oi Nouns, together with the firft future and perfect of regu lar Verbs, which in the original are fre quently omitted - With refpcét to ano malons Verbs, I have generally diftin guifhed them by an afterifc; but as their firi't futures and perfects could not be fo conveniently pointed out in the fame man ner as the regulars, I mufi therefore refer.
