Excerpt from Essays on Phrenology, or an Inquiry Into the Principles and Utility of the System of Drs. Gall and Spurzheim, and Into the Objections Made Against It
My first information concerning the Sys terri of Drs gall and spurzheim, was de rived from No. 49. Of the Edinburgh Re view. Iled away by the boldness of that piece of criticism, I regarded the System as contemptibly absurd, and the authors of it as the most disingenuous of men. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a significant contribution to the philosophy of the human mind, arguing that the mind manifests a plurality of innate faculties, each with limited and specific functions. The author contends that these faculties manifest themselves through distinct organs in the brain, and that the development of these organs can be observed through the shape of the head. Grounded in careful observation and comparison, this work stands apart from traditional metaphysical systems that rely solely on introspection and speculation. The author demonstrates the existence of distinct mental faculties, providing a framework for understanding the diversity of human thought and behavior. By comparing the power of manifesting the mind with the development of the brain, this book establishes a connection between the internal faculties of the mind and the external world, offering a comprehensive view of the nature of human consciousness.
