Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the ancient philosophical debate surrounding the consumption of animal flesh. The author meticulously examines the arguments of various schools of thought, including the Stoics, Peripatetics, and Epicureans, presenting their justifications for and against a meatless diet. Through exploring historical and cultural contexts, the book reveals how attitudes towards animal slaughter and consumption have evolved over time. It delves into the ethical considerations, societal implications, and even the practicalities of abstaining from meat, referencing historical figures like Pythagoras and referencing ancient practices like animal sacrifice. By dissecting these diverse perspectives, the book challenges readers to contemplate the deeper significance of their dietary choices and the impact these choices have on themselves, the environment, and the animal kingdom. Ultimately, it invites us to consider whether a life of compassion and non-violence can extend beyond the human realm, prompting a reevaluation of our relationship with the natural world.
