Excerpt from A Translation of the Anglo-Saxon Poem of Beowulf: With a Copious Glossary Preface and Philological Notes
With the mythic history of the North, I cannot suffer the erroneous views developed in my preface to continue as my recorded opinion, uncorrected, and unrefuted: it is due not only to myself, but to those who interest themselves with the antiquities of our native land, to cut away, root and branch, whatever is false in what I have published, and to add what upon maturer consideration seems likely to throw light upon the obscure and dificult subject with which we have to deal.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the literary history and mythology entwined within the epic poem of 'Beowulf.' The author challenges previous misconceptions, arguing that the poem is fundamentally an Angle story rather than having Danish origins. By examining the poem's mythic heroes, the author traces their origins in Norse legends and reveals their significance within the broader context of Anglo-Saxon culture. Through this analysis, the book not only sheds light on the poem itself but also provides valuable insights into the development of Anglo-Saxon literature and mythology. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
