Lottatore convinto, non piegò mai a discapito delle sue opinioni. Nel 1885, ces sate le ire di parte, fu nuovamente Prefetto di Aquila, e nel 1887 di Messina, dove andò nei giorni terribili del colera. Benemerito della se lute pubblica, fu decorato d' una medaglia d' oro e di due di argento.
