Excerpt from Shop Mathematics, Vol. 2: Advanced Shop Mathematics; Prepared in the Extension Division of the University of Wisconsin
This volume presents the second half of the instruction papers in Shop Mathematics as developed and used in the Extension Division of the University of Wisconsin. In it the authors have endeavored to present such of the principles of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and logarithms as have been found to be of prac tical value in the shop, showing some of the better known applica tions and making the presentation as practical as seemed possible. Experience in the teaching of this course for over five years shows that it has been successful in developing in the student ability to apply the principles to his own shop problems and in giving him a good mathematical preparation for advanced technical study.
It is here presented in the belief that it will be found suitable for home study and for use as a text in trade schools, technical high schools and continuation schools.

This book introduces a structured process that equips students and practitioners with the mathematics they need to solve advanced shop problems and computations. Developed and used for over five years in extension courses at the University Of Wisconsin, this volume presents the fundamentals of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and logarithms as they apply to the skills and trades. Through practical examples and exercises the author demonstrates how to transform formulas into the proper format for problem-solving, with an emphasis on the usefulness of formulas in the shop environment. Additionally, chapters devoted to trigonometry and logarithms make this a practical text for anyone working in a trade that requires familiarity with advanced mathematical computations, whether that be in the field or a workshop setting.
