Excerpt from Messiahs: Their Role in Civilization
Wilson Wallis first began to specialize in the field of anthropology in 1907, when, shortly after graduating from Dickinson College, he entered Oxford Uni versity as a Rhodes Scholar. In 1910 he received a diploma in anthropology and the Bachelor of Science degree from Oxford University. Upon returning to the United States, he became engaged in first-hand investigation of the habits and traditions of North American Indians. Between 1911 and 1923 he gave courses in anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of California, the Fresno Junior College, and Reed College. In 1923 he joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota and in 1938 he became head of that institution's Department of Anthropology. Long active in the American An thropological Association, he is now the President of its central branch.
