An interval is designated as an augmented interval when its limit is extended onehalf tene beyond that of the natural interval of the same name which appears in the major scale.
An interval is designated as a minor interval when the distance between its two tones is one half-tone less than in the interval of the same name which occurs in the major scale.
An interval is designated as a diminished interval when the distance between its two tones is one half-tone less than in a minor interval.
Through inversion an augmented interval becomes diminished, a minor becomes major.
