This book offers historical insights into the legal systems of England and Holland and how they address the issue of debt, particularly from the perspective of the debtor and the individual's right to maintain a basic standard of living. The author explores the historical development of debt laws in both countries and how they have evolved over time. Comparing debt laws between these two countries, the book also examines the relative strengths and weaknesses of each system and concludes with arguments for reforming England's own approach to the treatment of debtors, particularly insolvent debtors.
