If asked' which I consider the best Italian Grammar, my answer would be The shortest is the best, for, the one that has the least to say about the matter will do the least towards making you abandon the study altogether. The little French works of polidori and vergani are the best of their kind. These do not,' to be sure, guide you far; but they are useful as far as they go,'and do not lead you into darkness by unsatisfactory explanations.
