Nous devons dire ici quelques mots des notations au moyen desquelles on indique sur une droite les limites et le sens des seg ments à additionner.
On peut considérer une droite, soit comme une forme de points ou ponctuelle, soit comme le lieu d'une suite de segments.
Dans le premier cas (fig. L'indication conventionnelle ne présente aucune ambiguïté si chacun des points à considérer est affecté d'un indice d'ordre; mais, dans le second cas, il devient nécessaire d'indiquer avec précision les points de séparation des segments consécutifs.
