Excerpt from A Practical Guide to the Testing of Insulated Wires and Cables
The main idea running through this little work is to present in clear and practical form the ordinary every-day work of the testing-room, in other words, the rudiments of wire and cable testing, with a view to furnishing to the workers in the great fields of telephony, telegraphy, elec tric lighting and electric railroading a concise guide to the manipulation of a set of testing instruments.
It goes without saying that references have been occa sionally made to the standard work on this subject, Kempe's Handbook of Electrical Testing; and the same writer's Electrical Engineer's Pocket-book, has also, from time to time been referred to.
The author's acknowledgments are due to Mr. E. H. Lyon for assistance in the preparation of the original diagrams, which materially help to explain the text.
