Excerpt from Concerning Parallels
Had no other causes than those which govern, or were supposed to govern, the movements and changes of objects incapable of acting, in the ethical sense, at all. Hence many strange aberrations of history and the social sciences, which tried with much ingenuity and little philosophy to bring immutable laws into what in the last analysis is essentially a series of interdependent bio graphies of notable individuals, and therefore must always have a large residuum that is quite incalculable, at all events by any finite observer.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the value and limitations of drawing parallels between human behavior across different cultures throughout history. The author argues that while such comparisons can provide valuable insights, they must be made with careful consideration of the historical and cultural context of each society. The author examines various examples of how scholars have used comparative methods to study topics such as religious beliefs, mythology, and social customs. The author also discusses the strengths and weaknesses of different methodological approaches to understanding human behavior, arguing that a combination of historical and comparative methods can provide the most comprehensive and accurate picture of our shared humanity. The book's insights challenge traditional assumptions about cultural evolution and offer a more nuanced understanding of the complex relationship between human behavior and its historical and cultural context.
