La cuaresma del Ramadhan, con el forzoso ayuno que el Korán impone a los muslimes en acción de gracias y en me moria de haber de los cielos aquel mes descendido el Li bro Santo; con su séquito obligado de penitencias conti nundas y oraciones fervorosas, el recogimiento diurno y las prácticas piadosas prescritas en la Sauna, - todo había termi nado, dejando sólo en pos el recuerdo de enfadosa pesadilla en larga noche de pertinaz insomnio. No más días pasados en oración bajo las sombrías naves del templo, iluminadas por el mortecino resplandor de los cirios y de las lámparas; entre la multitud abigarrada informe de devotos, en extática actitud contemplativa, ó en continuo y trastornador movi miento; entre el desconcertado rumor confuso de las ora ciones de los fieles; en aquella atmósfera pesada y sofocan No más abstinencia, ni más privaciones: la luna nueva, al desgarrar serena los cendales oscuros de la noche, arro jando aquella exaltación religiosa en la sima profunda del pa sado que fué, traía consigo deslumbrador cortejo de risueños deleites, como recompensa merecida, después de la cuaresma, por los Geles.
