Excerpt from A First Book in Greek
This book is an attempt to meet the growing demand of teachers for a preparatory book which shall be at the same time systematic, brief, and thorough. It is complete in itself and does not require the use of a grammar.
The forms of inflection and the usages of syntax have been stated first, and then illustrated. This system we believe to be clearer, and to give better results, than any inductive method, which may at first seem interesting, but soon becomes burdensome and confusing.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is an ambitious but successful attempt to present ancient Greek to English-speakers in a new way. It does not adopt the traditional approach of teaching Latin declensions and conjugations first, but instead offers a way to learn to read ancient Greek almost immediately. The approach is based on the ancient Greek phonetic system, which students can learn to pronounce in 15 minutes or less. Once they master the pronunciation, the author suggests, they can immediately learn to read Greek. The book also discusses Greek sentence structures and other complexities, and it comes with an extensive vocabulary list. By the end of the book, learners should be able to translate Greek passages with the aid of a dictionary. The author hopes that his method will open up the study of ancient Greek to more people, allowing them to read works of literature, history, and philosophy in their original languages.
