Non content d'avoir ainsi procuré une distraction brillante a la population parisienne, le roi écrivit, le 25 septembre, au maire de Paris, en mettant à sa disposition une somme de livres destinée aux pauvres.
Le Corps municipal reçut communication 'de cette lettre le lendemain 26 et en décida simplement l'insertion au procès verbal. La répartition de cette somme entre les 48 sections fut connue le té octobre.
