So long as She persevered in that character, she had a right to invent amusing tales to gratify the curiosity of her readers: yet even the regions of fiction are subject to the great laws of justice and good faith; nor can that writer hope for indulgence, who, under the dis guise of a fabulous narrative, conceals an attack upon the reputation and character of others.
