Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a historical account of the life and times of Lorenzo Valdà s, a soldier in the New World, and the multifaceted nature of a civil war: The War of the Comuneros. Through a series of interconnected stories spanning from the early 16th century to the 19th century, the author delves into the motivations, hopes, and consequences that shaped the lives of those involved. The Comunero Revolt, or the War of the Comunidades, was a series of popular uprisings that took place in Spain. These uprisings began in 1520 and lasted until 1522, during the reign of Charles I. The Comuneros were primarily composed of urban dwellers, including merchants, lawyers, and artisans, who were upset about the perceived unfairness of the monarchy towards their local affairs and liberties. The war began when the Comuneros took up arms against the royal army and were defeated in the Battle of Villalar in 1521. In the aftermath of the war, the monarchy began to impose a series of reforms to address the concerns of the Comuneros, which had some limited success in preventing further unrest. The book uses this contextual background to weave together tales of betrayal, revenge, and the struggle between nobles and commoners. The novel begins with Lorenzo Valdà s, a young man whose life is changed when the Comunero Revolt breaks out. He joins the rebels and fights for their cause, but is later betrayed by one of his comrades and killed. In the years that follow, the ghost of Lorenzo roams the streets of his hometown, seeking justice for his murder.
