La Commissione lo esaminò con benevola severità ed equità, e gli attribuì il premio, pa rendole di scorgere nell' autore una forma d'ingegno giovanile, che dà i lampi anticipati di quello che potrà fare, e merita d'essere incoraggiato Non tocca a me decidere se quei valentuomini vedessero e operassero giusto; ma mi sia lecito rivelare che quel loro progno stico bene augurante e quella loro sentenza mi scesero diritto al cuore, e che io presi con me medesir'no l'im pegno di far di tutto per non mettere quei giudici tanto cortesi nella necessità di dichiarare d' essersi ingannati.
