The battle, which took place in 1526, is examined through five documents which provide insight into the political and military aspects of the conflict. The first document is a narrative poem that describes the victory of the city of Siena over the Florentine army. The second document is a letter from the commander of the victorious Sienese army to the city's governing council, describing the battle's events. The third document is a report from a Florentine diplomat who was present at the battle, providing an account of the Florentine army's defeat. The fourth document is a letter from the Sienese government to the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, requesting assistance in defending the city against further Florentine attacks. The final document is a poem that laments the destruction of Rome during the Sack of Rome in 1527. Together, these documents offer a detailed account of the Battle of Camollia and the political context in which it took place, shedding light on the complex dynamics of warfare and power struggles in Renaissance Italy.
