Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book provides revolutionary ideas concerning conquest. The author first examines the erroneous ideas of such noted writers as Hobbes, Machiavelli, Spinoza, Montesquieu. Next, the author expounds upon the grounds and nature of just wars and unjust conquests. The author's ultimate conclusion is that war is not the natural state of man, as Hobbes says, but rather peace, goodwill, and mutual aid. The author bolsters this argument with numerous examples from antiquity showing how earlier peoples, although ferocious in other respects, were just and peace-loving amongst themselves. The author concludes by showing that conquest is not a natural right and must be based upon necessary self-defense or a clear and evident threat from another nation. This book is an immensely important and timely work that challenges many standard assumptions about war, conquest, and the state of nature.
