Excerpt from Trees and Trees and How to Care for Them: With Appendix of Morris' Nursery Catalogue; A Book Prepared for Those Interested in Horticulture
Dear Sirs -the fruit trees, vines, etc., you sent me last winter have done very well although they were nearly two months enroute. They reached us here in Central China in good condition. I put them out at once and have taken good care of them. Out of the fruit trees and grape vines only four died and the balance are growing nicely. About one-sixth of straw berries, only, survived the trip; but these are doing well. At least four fifths of blackberries and raspberries lived and are growing rapidly. So we hope in a couple of years to have fresh California fruits growing here in Central China.
