Dans un ouvrage de longue haleine, il est bien difficile de rendre justice à tout le monde; s'il nous est arrivé d'attacher moins d'importance qu'il ne faudrait à cer tains travaux, nous espérons qu'au lieu de nous supposer quelque mauvaise intention on voudra bien attribuer ce malheur à la difficulté du travail. Du reste, quoique le com merce littéraire soit actuellement très - actif, nous n'hésitons pas à affirmer que les Italiens pourraient adresser aux savants étrangers bien des réclamations de ce genre. Cela tient à deux causes la premiere est le nombre toujours croissant de ceux qui se livrent à ces recherches; il devient ainsi bien difficile de se tenir au courant de ces observations si multipliées; la seconde est la multitude de langues dans lesquelles sont publiés les travaux modernes, ce qui augmente singuhere ment la difficulté que présente leur étude.
