Excerpt from Elements of Plane and Spherical Trigonometry, With Its Applications to the Principles of Navigation and Nautical Astronomy: With the Logarithmic and Trigonometrical Tables
In the present volume, therefore, both the theory and the practiw of the science have been introduced, every particular formula being illustra examples of the numerical calculation, arranged in the proper form. Plan of combining practice with theory, in works like the present was always adopted by t e earlier English writers, and it is to be r t that recent authors have, in their admiration of foreign methods, spatted so widely, in this respect, from the example of their predecessors, dwelling so much as they do upon the symbols, and so little u n the things signified.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fundamental principles of trigonometry, a branch of mathematics that explores the relationships between angles and sides of triangles. The author, writing in the early 19th century, provides a comprehensive guide to solving both plane and spherical triangles, a topic of great importance in navigation, astronomy, and other fields. The book goes beyond merely presenting abstract formulas by emphasizing practical applications and numerical calculations, demonstrating how theoretical concepts can be used to solve real-world problems. The author's clear explanations and detailed examples make this treatise an excellent resource for both beginners and those seeking a deeper understanding of trigonometry. Throughout the text, the author highlights the significance of the science of trigonometry, not only in its ability to unlock the mysteries of the natural world, but also in its contribution to the advancement of human knowledge and understanding. This book's exploration of both the theoretical and practical aspects of trigonometry provides a valuable historical perspective on a crucial mathematical field.
