Obs. 1 Language in its earlier state expressed all the relations (which wer afterwards expressed by prepositions, the verb firm, and the other auxiliar verbs, &c.) by the inflexions alone 0. As the full powers and meanings c the indexions were by degrees lost sight of, and at the same time mor accurate distinctions between the difi'erent relations were required, ther arose the prepositions, which originally were themselves essential word: or inflexions thereof. - (see under Prepositions.
