Within the past four years the introduction of steel in building construction has been so rapid, and the changes thereby occasioned in the tables relating to the strength of materials so great, that it became necessary to revise all that portion of the book which relates to iron and steel construction. After undertaking this revision, it was found that the changes would be so great as to necessitate resetting a large portion of the book, and the author then decided to improve the Opportunity to rearrange Part I II and to make certain additions thereto that he has had in contemplation for some time. The present edition, therefore, is largely a new book, all of Chapters XXIII. And XXV and nearly all of Chapters XL, XIII and XIV., being rewritten, and one hundred pages of new matter added in the second part alone.
Part 111. Has been rearranged and enlarged by about eighty pages of; miscellaneous information of especial value to architects, and a glossary of sixty pages added as an appendix.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a treatise on foundational construction, focusing on the principles of mechanics as they apply to strength and stability. The author organizes the book thematically, beginning with a discussion of equilibrium and the concepts of statics and hydrostatics and then moving on to more complex topics such as stability and strength analysis, deflection, and critical stresses. The author includes valuable tables and formulas on trigonometry and the properties of materials that readers can apply to their own building designs. The author shares numerous real-world examples of foundational design flaws and demonstrates how to use the principles explained in the book to avoid them. This book is an important reference for architects and engineers and will prove useful to anyone interested in the science of foundational construction.
