Ronny Someck is an enormously popular poet and radio host in Israel. Born in Iraq, he spent his childhood in a transit camp for new immigrants. This is his first full-length book to appear in English; his Sephardi voice is rich with slang, hot music, street gangsters and army commandos, and the odors of falafel and schwarma. In what other poet could we find Tarzan, Marilyn Monroe, and cowboys battling with Rabbi Yehuda Halevi for the hearts and souls of Israelis?

Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Near fine condition with minor shelf wear. Warmly inscribed by both translators, Moshe Dor and Barbara Goldberg, to Myra. Light dealer pencil markings on flyleaf, easily erasable. Provenance: acquired in Rockville, Maryland with a large group of poetry chapbooks, some explicitly inscribed to or annotated as to "Myra Sklarew." Given the local context (Rockville/MD) and multiple comparanda from the same lot, the recipient of this copy is presumed to be the poet Myra Sklarew, though the inscription in this volume reads only "Myra." Photo of the inscription is provided. Inscribed by Author(s). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers P1108
