A close examination of Horace's hymn Carmen Saeculare which was commissioned by Augustus in 17 BC for performance at the Ludi Saeculare . A presentation of the poem itself is accompanied by discussions of the Horatian and Hellenistic background and comparisons are made with other Latin poems. Extracts in Latin with English translation.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Michael C. J. Putnam is W. Duncan MacMillan II Professor of Classics and professor of comparative literature at Brown University. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including Virgil's Epic Designs: Ekphrasis in the Aeneid (ISBN 0 300 07353 4, ?27.50), published by Yale University Press.
