Grade 1-3-An unidentified narrator describes a harrowing TV movie in which aliens come to Earth and devour green stuff. The next day, experiencing difficulties with all things blue, the narrator is convinced that there are, indeed, aliens on Earth, but they are eating blue objects instead. Three graphic designers use a format here that is similar to their work in Get Red (Little, Brown, 2002): the text tells the story while related facts in small type enclosed in a white oval appear on the bottom of the page. When the narrator's agitation about the alien invasion is particularly acute ("Blue aliens ate my blue-lined paper!"), the hand-lettered text increases in size, changes color, and splashes across the page. Computer-enhanced photographs shift from green to blue as the narrator carries TV viewing into real life. Readers will be delightfully "grossed out" by the large green eyeball and blue meat loaf. Photos of a frantic mom sporting old-fashioned hair rollers and of the child's teacher, Mrs. Sapphire, shown close up with her blue eye shadow, blue eyeglass frames, and blue earrings, will also amuse. The switch from a green to blue theme may cause some confusion, but the alien subject matter will probably draw readers in.
