Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book uniquely explores prentice fees as a consideration for the master and servant relationship under the law of assumpsit. There is an analysis of not only the legal rights and liabilities of the parties to a prentice contract but also a look into the broader economic and social implications of such contracts. Historically and to the present day, these contracts have had a range of effects from serving an essential role in the training of young people and offering economic stability for the master to circumstances with some resemblance to indentured servitude. In any event, the master was expected under these agreements to provide the apprentice with not just training in a particular trade or craft but also room and board. This book offers a comprehensive study of these contracts in which the author traces the development of the law of assumpsit in historical context.
