Excerpt from The Eclectic German Reader: A Series of Progressive Selections From the Best Modern German Authors, With Copious Notes; Being an Introductory Part of Woodbury's Eclectic Reader
In compliance with the desire of the publishers I have pre pared an Introductory part to Woodbury's Eclectic German Reader, arranged on the strictly progressive principle and be ginning with perfectly easy pieces. It consists of two sec tions. In an the pieces contained in the first section every single word has been translated and explained, though, of course, but once, unisex it should occur in a different signification, whilst in the second only such words and passages have been translated as, from their nature, were deemed to be beyond the reach of a beginner. These translations and explanations have been added to the progressive part in the shape of an appendix.
