Excerpt from Papers of the British School at Rome, Vol. 3
The publication of a third volume of 'papers' by the British School at Rome may fairly be taken as evidence of its continued activity and usefulness.
The first paper contains a further instalment of the valuable work which the assistant-director, Mrf Ashby, is doing for the recovery of the lost history of the Campagna Romana. In this department of study Mr. Ashby has won for himself a well-deserved reputation as an indefatigable explorer, and a scrupulously accurate observer. It may be added in proof of the estimation in which Mr. Ashby is held by foreign scholars, and also of the friendly relations existing between the British School and the other foreign schools in Rome, that some of his shorter papers have been published by the French School in their Me'langes.
