Mais d,uma vez ponderei os inconvenientes d'uma educação feita em terra estranha, e em collegios d'outra nação; previa que os alumnos, vindo em tenra idade, aprendem sim com perfeição as línguas estrangeiras, mas esquecem a propria, a ponto de se lhes tornar estranha, e o que mais é, adquirem habitos, ideas e usos que não sam os da sua terra, e quando voltam, acham-se nella estranhos e descontentes, preferindo muitas vezes a madrasta 'a mãi patria. Maiores eram porém os inconvenientes de vossa educação feita em Portugal em tão tristes tempos.
