Immer deutlicher erkennbar liefen zwei Richtungen neben einander her. Die eine Richtung entwickelte den in den Bildern von 1515 und 1518 ganz bestimmt ausgeprägten Stil Lucas Cranachs in natürlicher Weise weiter und liess sich auch noch über das Jahr 1537 hinaus verfolgen, die andere setzte ohne Zusammenhang mit den vor 1520 entstandenen Bildern Lucas Cranachs um 1525 fast unvermittelt ein und brach beim Jahre 1537 ah. Der Vertreter dieser zweiten Richtung konnte nur Hans Cranach sein.
